What the material actually does
The surface is open-cell: it takes moisture in, which keeps grip under sweat at the cost of needing a proper wash. Grip when wet is rated medium, and when dry high. It carries trace latex proteins, so it is the wrong choice with a latex allergy. A renewable, biodegradable material that carries trace latex proteins.

Living with it
An open surface takes moisture in, so wiping the top does not finish the job. It wants a proper wash now and then and, more importantly, air on both sides before it is rolled away. Rubber also dislikes direct sun: leave it drying on a balcony through a summer afternoon and the surface goes chalky.
